Dr. K. Velavan is a seasoned Radiation Oncologist and Chemotherapist with a rich clinical and academic background in oncology. During his Senior Residency at the Department of Radiotherapy, JIPMER, he was entrusted with the comprehensive planning and execution of radiation therapy for a wide range of cancers including uterine cervix, breast, oral cavity, ENT, oesophagus, ano-rectum, and soft tissue sarcomas. His responsibilities extended to in-patient care, chemotherapy administration, and policy decision-making under consultant supervision during tumor clinics in collaboration with departments like General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Chest, and Orthopedics.

He has significant hands-on experience in advanced Brachytherapy techniques, including:

Intraluminal Brachytherapy (ILBT) for esophageal cancer

Endobronchial Brachytherapy for lung cancer

Interstitial implants for early-stage breast cancer

Surface moulds for post-operative chest wall treatment

Intracavitary Brachytherapy for nasopharyngeal cancers

Over 620 HDR intracavitary Iridium applications for cervical cancer

Teaching & Academic Contributions: Dr. Velavan has actively contributed to medical education by training:

Postgraduate students in radiotherapy planning, brachytherapy techniques, and multidisciplinary cancer management

Interns and medical undergraduates in the principles of Radiation Oncology, Clinical Oncology, and Palliative Medicine
